QsTenG Performance
Ethernet continues to be the dominant network technology, the result of wide adoption of low cost components and a high degree of inter-operability. Ethernet has grown both in functionality and performance, adopting technologies that were previously the domain of specialist proprietary networks. The growth in bandwidth hungry applications and the demand for fully interoperable Gb/s data centre infrastructure provides a growing market for companies developing the next generation commodity Ethernet devices. Quadrics is a leading interconnect provider, specialising in products for the High Performance Computing (HPC) market1 and offers its second Ethernet product, designed for smaller networks. Quadrics is offering the 24 10 Gb/s port QsTenG TG-201 1U, a one rack-unit solution based on the Fulcrum FM2224 switch, available in CX-4 copper and XFP optics versions. TG-201 performance was evaluated using Mryricom 10 Gb/s Ethernet adapters. The results presented here show that the switch sustains link layer bandwidth and that low latencies are achieved. The combination of Quadrics switches and Myricom adapters provides a cost effective solution for bandwidth hungry compute cluster and data centre applications and brings a very lower latency.
